I swear "the Borg" they are out there. All of them with their en-bodied underpants gnomes anxiously awaiting for a chance to come out of orbit and snatch their all so important underpants. Why are people so anal? I don't get it. My best bet on figuring this one out is that something happened in that individuals (anal person/member of the collective) life where they were inadvertently "burned," for something they didn't do. So then they become this "rule making whore" where everything must be documented, all "t's crossed" and "i's dotted." All I have to say to that is, go down to height and ashbury, go into one of those "rasta-man" shops, buy a bong, then while you're walking back to your expensive luxury japanese SUV, you'll probably be stopped by some punk ass kid asking you if you want some "weed", then just say yes, then go home and get high. Then come into work the next day and be happy, and don't burden us with those jacked up rules. There are already so many unwritten rules, why write more? I don't get it. All of this management and structure, what a load. I surely hope one day I'm not a manager, I would honestly just hate it. You can't make everyone happy, and you can't absolutely make everyone like you. What a shitty position, it's like being that one kid in school everyone bombed on accept, some people will like you cause you have power, a small handful will be against you, then the rest would just shut up and nod their head. How did all of this great education and knowledge leave their head? I have not a clue. But I bet it has something to do with their pictures of their kids, and their all so nice and brand new SUV's. My payback for the day is when I hear my co-worker that sits in the cube next me, raise his voice at his wife over the phone! That guy gets a phone call (status report / daily bitching) from his wife about twice a day. Man how can people settle like this? Sooner or later I'm going to figure out a way of being untethered from this crap we're duped into believing is freedom. We're all drones, as much as I'd like to believe that I have a free mind sooner or later the government or the people you work for will own it, if not restrict you to operate within certain parameters.

This Existence
Monday, April 26, 2004 06:00 PM
Why do we exist? As I was biking up this crazy road this weekend, I was completely consumed with the question of existence. Why do we exist. Sure some one in the audience here is going to think that well "some higher power had something to do with it" sure from a "controlling the masses" point of view it all makes perfect sense. I think we are here cause we are just here. We choose what we want, and the consequences are just random. This is the way it has always been. Honestly, I think what made me question my existence more than anything at that point was because I didn't know if I was going to take a turn coming down the hilly terrain to fast and end up mangled at the side of the road, or some one in a car was going to take me out and leave me for dead! It was a life appreciating experience.

Blood and Oranges
Friday, April 23, 2004 12:29 PM
When I woke up this morning, "Blood and Oranges" was in my head. "Blood and Oranges" is a song by Viva Death. Weird thing is that I haven't really listened to that song for sometime. It is very freaky when you wake up and a guitar riff is in your head. But also very nice to be wanting to do many things, and not be thinking of the past. Many things, such as all of these projects, and the marathon training. Unfortunately my marathon training blog has not been updated. But I'm working on the code that should automate that process. Having some issues with graphing my route. But things are coming along quite well. At least I think so. I hope to have that movable type plug-in done and over with a couple of weeks before the marathon. So I came into work today, and I was literally falling asleep. So I went into the kitchen here and fixed me some stuff to get high and motivated on. I can see how it's easy to get addicted to this stuff. I remember my Jr. High Geography teacher was an avid coffee drinker, so are my parents. I'm kind of against coffee in general, at least for the purposes of waking up. I'll gladly goto starbucks and pay them 5 bucks for a 16 oz. cup of some weird blend, for the sole purpose of just hanging out. But that was back when I had to get a problem set done, or some reading for class done and over with. It's not like I have to study anymore! Now I study what I want. I can't even imagine right now what it would be like to jump back into school. Just more stress in life that I really wouldn't want. I haven't been reading my Bruce Lee book either, I've just been training and then going home and vegging out. It's great, actually coming home, and there's a roommate there that is laid back and easy going. Actually wanting to hang out and have fun, and not be all uptight and trying to grow up. For example yesterday, I mentioned to my roommate that I got a "gmail" account, and I was expressing my happiness. He had this blank, expressionless look on his face, and then replied, "I'm an avid privacy junkie." With no emotion, no expression. Then my happy, easy going, excited attitude automatically made and about face. I then replied, "Oh." Then tried to process, and figure out what the hell he meant by that. Then I easily deduced that he was obviously against the fact that gmail, uses google's search technology to spider your emails for keywords, then when you are viewing a particular email these almost unnoticeable ASCII adds are on the right hand side. They don't' even take up that much screen real estate, nor do they blink and flash. Just the pure fact that, goggle will data mine and process your emails, is quite a problem. I read their terms of service and privacy agreement, and of course the only thing that scares me is this clause that is quite vague.
Gmail
Thursday, April 22, 2004 05:39 PM
Okay so I was reading my feeds, and I stubble upon this article. So the article basically states that gmail has been opened up to a select number of blogger members. So I said oh ya I used to use blogger way back before blogger was bought out by google, and I used to blog there often. So I guess I met all of the criteria. So anyone that's out there reading this please drop me a line at heatxsink@gmail.com.

A few small details
Thursday, April 22, 2004 11:16 AM
So there are a few small things I forgot to mention, so this one band called Save Ferris, they broke up awhile back. Seems like on of their band members got sick . Another is this Monique Powell Website, she's hott. That's all for now. I also kind of hacked the KROQ website with their retarded frames. I found out which webpage they are serving has the top 10 most requested songs.
Linux Heaven
Thursday, April 22, 2004 10:33 AM
Just came back from showing the IT guys here how to look and see what their IP address is in linux. Very cool. It seems Linux is really starting to rule the IT world, with tools and such. Gotta love it. I just hope that when Linux rules the desktop i'll be around to get hired to architect the entire thing.

The Rat Pack
Wednesday, April 21, 2004 12:27 PM
I got this really good CD. I'd say that every penny spent on this CD was well worth it. The album is called "The Rat Pack, Live and Swingin." This album also has a DVD of one of their performances. And it's so crazy to see these guys in action. I've collected a DVD of the HBO movie about them, and also have purchased the original "Oceans Eleven." But this CD is actually them in action. And it's completely amazing. I wish they were still alive, because I would have loved to see them live. I can totally see how Frank Sinatra was a powerful individual. He had this aurora about him that even through the DVD can be noticed. Very awesome, the guy is phenomenal. If one day I could ever gain the smallest amount of power that, Sinatra had then i'd be very happy.
Ugh...Newspapers...Recycling Drama!!!
Tuesday, April 20, 2004 03:34 AM
Wow, we had another blackout here today. Very very odd. I think this tops the number of blackouts I've have ever been in for a months worth of time....ever. The apartment situation is just getting more and more odd. I'm figuring out that there's probably a majority of people out there that don't like to, or can't handle change. Now granted change can suck, and no one is going to really be all happy about a change they don't want. But I think in general for some people, if things just do not go their way they get all weird about stuff. For example, lets pretend that you (whoever you are out there reading this..) live with two other people. You actually are like some kind of weird green peace, tree loving person, and want to participate in recycling. Would it be at all that nice to turn the communal area (living room, dining room, bathroom) of your apartment that you share with two other people into this unbearable recycling center? Then on top of that you decide that when you goto Costco you want to collect all of these boxes cause you feel you could use them one day. And here's the catch you decide to store these boxen in.....yes that's right in the communal area's space. Isn't that awesome? (sarcasm) Why not just promote more clutter to everyone's lives by collecting worthless shit. Now granted I love the environment and I totally think recycling is great, although I don't have the time for that, but I do give credit to those who do make an effort to recycle. If I did recycle I wouldn't put it in a place that everyone uses so.....I would probably just put it in some containers in the back patio area. But I'm not like that I figure the amount of money i get from recycling would probably barely cover the cost of the containers I'd use to organize my recycling habit. On a completely somewhat related not we also have someone that buys the newspaper. (hrmm...I know what you're thinking....more stuff to recycle!!!) okay, let me give all of you out there my spin on getting the local newspaper. DON'T!!!! Especially if you have a computer and an internet connection. It's just more trees going dead and ending up sprawled across your living room or some other designated area. For example when I was living back home during my college years, my family would subscribe to two different papers, one being the "Los Angeles Times", and the other would be the local paper. Ok so that's a huge amount of reading to do daily not to mention, about where does the paper go after it's done? Well in our home it ended up on top of the kitchen table, and then after the day was over it would end up stacked on one of the unused dining chairs. At the time I didn't care much because that simply wasn't any of my say in things. I didn't pay rent, or own the home, and I hardly used the kitchen let alone the living room when I was at home. I was pretty much was held up in my room on my computer(s) or simply never home. Usually the latter. So looking back on what would happen to that newspaper, I observed that indeed, I should either invest in the LA Times, or start my own paper cause I could make a killing, or of course I'm not going to get any kind of newspaper, it's just a waste of precious resources. Further more there is that whole situation of I could just goto "cnn.com," and simply read whatever it is going on to my hearts content, much like I do with "slashdot.org" and tech stuff. Funniest thing is that I'll read about something on one of my feeds and about a day later in conversation while my roommate is burrowing in his paper making this huge mess, I simply reply, "oh ya I read it on
Today must be Friday
Friday, April 16, 2004 01:21 PM
I'm so tired of staring at this screen. I have the choice of either going to see Kill Bill vol. 2, or going for a long run. I'm thinking of choosing the run. I didn't run yesterday, so I need to put on that mileage. I'm thinking of doing my same route..but I'm not entirely sure.
Waking up tired
Friday, April 16, 2004 10:24 AM
Staying up an entire two days wasn't such a great idea. I actually needed to drink coffee yesterday so I didn't doze off in my cubicle. It was funny I was so tired I went to the bathroom just to catch a couple of winks. That's when I decided that I should probably get some coffee, cause it was going to be a long day. Well I now appreciate my investment, and I notice how uncomfortable the chair I use at work really is. Once you have an aeron chair, you are pretty much spoiled for life. I have been thinking about buying another one for work.
Didn't sleep a single bit last night.
Thursday, April 15, 2004 10:23 AM
Very very tired, I was too busy with getting taxes out of the way, the lease for the apartment taken care of, and then doing some laundry. Ugh, I might even get a nice Aeron Chair today. Not sure we'll see what happens. For those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about there's a picture of it below.
More work
Wednesday, April 14, 2004 12:08 PM
Wow it's already noon! Time for lunch.
Today just seems to lag like no other.
Tuesday, April 13, 2004 03:58 PM
For some odd reason, time has been passing quite slowly today. I don't get it.
Do you know what the month of April brings?
Tuesday, April 13, 2004 11:58 AM
Oh what joy. Tomorrow is crunch time either file for an extension or just get it over with. I can't figure out what to do. Taxes just plain suck. Well other than that I'm reviewing one of the co-worker's code. They call it a "on-line" code review. If I were to give my honest opinion of his code, I'd probably be held a similar level of scrutiny, plus politically probably not to smart to be bashing a senior engineer. Especially around here.
Mondays.....
Monday, April 12, 2004 09:39 AM
Seems as if our code revision system/repository is back up again. Finally. Took them a whole two days to get it working again. This has possibly screwed up my schedule. I'm pretty positive I'll find a way of overcoming it. More babbling about co-workers kids. I think this might be part of the Monday ritual. Very odd, I wonder how my generation will handle this kind of Monday thing. I bet we'll handle it by not coming into work till noon on Mondays!
William Hung
Saturday, April 10, 2004 06:32 PM
Craziest thing happened yesterday. I was at a Borders book store and over the their PA system they play music. When I first got in there, no problem nice tranquil music you'd expect from a bookstore. Then after awhile I hear over the PA...."Talk to me show your name.....She bangs, she bangs, oh baby....she moves...she moves..." you could figure out the rest. Okay hearing that made me laugh, I thought it was funny (ha ha). But then the continued on with the rest of this guys cd. Man that CD is the worst cd i've ever heard. I think you could torture people by playing that CD entirely through. The whole irony of the entire situation is the fact that I was at Borders on University Ave. which is up the street from Stanford, and Mr. Hung is of course a student at the rival of Stanford which is CAL Berkely. So besides that I totally had to agree with everyone that was in the bookstore I was making my rounds in the tech books section as usual. As I was walking through the store I could hear people in pure disgust mutter to themselves please make this stop. It was the funniest site i've ever seen, never in my life have I seen music effect people in this way. Whoever buys that cd has been taken to the cleaners and should have the right to pirate music for a lifetime. Seriously, I was very very very tempted to get on one of those phones that hooks into the PA system and start chanting "No more Hung!". I think everyone would have complied and gone along with it. Anyways it made for a really crazy experience.
It's friday!

Viva Death
Friday, April 09, 2004 12:44 PM
So one of my favorite bands called "Face to Face" broke up and they pretty much formed another band called "Viva Death". So I checked out their website today. Been there before but I noticed they've made another video. Their first video was of some girl just dancing in the mirror. If i remember right she was pretty hott. But no shot of the band or the members in the video. Kind of interesting. Now with their second video it's pretty much the same idea. Just people doing random things while the song plays through. Very weird, they have this weird kind of older darker sound to them, definitely can't put my finger on it. Here's a link to the video.
Craziness has just started.
Friday, April 09, 2004 10:15 AM
Received an email from our little sister. Good to hear from her seems like she's going just fine. For the most part I'm exploring more and more of Santa Clara every time I go out for a run. It's a nice town. I'm almost at the point where I'm ready to bring the marathon blog up and online. I've come up with a design, and I hope that the info on that site just helps with visualizing the run. It's a good starting point, and from there I can evolve it into a more complicated of blogging mechanism.Day 20: All over received a notice stating I'm out of the red.

Julio the Neighbor
Thursday, April 08, 2004 10:18 AM
My neighbor is a fucking moron. Besides not shutting off the breaker while changing electrical outlets, and wanting to use one of the towels I use as a rag to clean up a mess he made while maintaining our toilet. When I first arrived up here he told me his entire life story. Which goes like a jerry springer skit, that's actually how he described it. I can't disagree with him. I personally think the guy has a good heart, he's just made some jacked up choices early on in life. He's pretty much the closet thing to any of my friends in LA, personality wise. All in all, at the end of the day he really does make living where I live more fun than him not being there at all. If I ever write a movie, or have my own TV show one day he'll definitely have an influence on the film or show with a character that's just like him.Day 19: puahaha
Blue Skies
Wednesday, April 07, 2004 09:08 AM
Lots of blue skies here. Amazing, it's very nice to see this kind of a sky. Been working on a prototype MT Plug-in. So things are definitely moving along. I hope to have some kind of XML-RPC base by the end of this weekend. Also found some more php classes I think I could use/modify. So things for heatxsink.com look promising.Day 18: puhaha
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Tuesday, April 06, 2004 12:05 PM
For some strange reason Steve is under this weird impression where he thinks he can without injury train for a marathon when he hasn't even put on the long mileage of a run greater than 10 miles. I seriously hope he doesn't injure himself. I really want to see him maintain that pace and kick some serious ass. I don't think he's ever landed in the hospital for anything severe. I say more power to him if he can do it. I'm going to start pushing my track workouts harder this week. I hope to run half of the mileage at 10 min/mi.Day 17: More work!
The Five Main Points
Tuesday, April 06, 2004 12:23 AM
1. The highest truth is inexpressible.2. Spiritual cultivation cannot be cultivated.3. In the last resort nothing is gained.4. There is nothing much in the teaching.5. In throwing punches and moving therein lies the wonderful Tao.--I wish neither to possess nor to be possessed.I no longer covet paradise.More important, I no longer fear hell...The medicine for my sufferingI had within me from the very beginning,But I did not take it.My ailment came from wihtin myself,But I did not observe it.Until this moment. Now I see that I will never find the lightUnless, like the candle, I am my own fuel,Comsuming myself.-Bruce Lee, Beyond System -- The Ultimate Source of Jeet Kune Do

Back in the Collective
Monday, April 05, 2004 09:05 AM
Back in the office today, I went into one of the conference rooms to stare out at the park across the street. Looks like today is going to be quite a nice day. First thing that happens while I'm strolling up the stairs is I see an employee that I'm somewhat working with; I don't even receive a fake "Good Morning," but immediately get told that the software I have been working on is not working properly. At that point I pondered just walking back out to my car and calling it a day. But instead, I just listened, went back to my cube, and started thinking why this piece of shit is not working. It's a challenge, not the same as troubleshooting why a car isn't working, or figuring out why some open source software has some jacked up dependency to some obscure package, but it's a job.Day 16: I'm here.
Hello World
Sunday, April 04, 2004 11:29 PM
This was quite a productive weekend. Started reading up on webservices, hit the gym, and of course did some sleeping. It was great! Also hung out with the roommates. The situation here is either improving, or i'm just adapting. I also found out that the next door neighboor is getting married. What is it with people? I don't get it. It seems they are quite happy. They are also in escrow for a house, looks like they are out of here, i'm thinking of moving into their apartment when they are gone. I haven't figured out what I want to do about that.
Day Off
Friday, April 02, 2004 10:12 AM
Feeling good, I worked so much that I don't have to work today. I'm soo happy. Another cool thing is that I played ball for 3 hours last night and I was hardly tired. It was great! Anyways, so I'm most likely going to the bookstore to pick up a book on xml-rpc, and then perhaps either go for a run or hit the gym. I'm also pondering running this half marathon tomorrow morning, so that obviously depends on running today, or not.

Thursday, April 01, 2004 05:11 PM
Whoa, we got hit with some weird ass sql server worm. It's pretty horrible, we were down for about 2.5 hours! Just plain craziness. So I'm thinking of writing a movable type plugin to randomly pick quotes and insert them up in the upper right hand corner of my blog. I'd like that better than the java script crap I have running right now. It would truly be like inspiration for the day or something. Cool thing is I'll get to write my first movable type plugin and start my work up to making a plugin for my Garmin GPS running thing!
About to go into our weekly status meeting!
Thursday, April 01, 2004 01:56 PM
Oh what fun, weekly status meeting! Get to hear the lead senior software engineer complain about everything, and talk about everything accept....WORK! Oh the tragedy. Fun times, at least I can just sit there like a little bitch and not say a word, just sit there and observe the madness.
Man all I wanted to do this morning is just sleep more!

I don't want to goto bed.
Thursday, April 01, 2004 12:11 AM
There's so many ideas in my mind, and I'd like to start really thinking them out. Problem is I have to wake up for fucking work! I hate it, this constant day in, day out thing where you go into work, and you sit in your cube, you can't talk loud, cause you'll disturb your neighbor. There's a whole shit load of crap that doesn't seem to make any sense. The sky's get so blue up here. But I see it from within the confines of our building. I don't get how some of these people can't feel trapped. They are most likely the bread winners of their families. Yet they come to work everyday, same bat time, same bat channel. Man if I could somehow just travel get out there and see the world, that would be great! Well until I either become a millionare, somehow all of my debt is abolished, or I die. I have to get to bed.
