Internet Polling

Monday, September 27, 2004 03:42 PM

poll.jpg
The only reason why this is closer to being scientific is the pure fact that I bet more people that use the internet are more likely to be in that same group of people that are Star Wars fans.

gbrowser.com

I'm deciding to unplug for a bit. I don't know how long that would be for, but I think it's going to be for awhile.

An Omen?

Monday, September 20, 2004 06:11 PM

Driving home from work today I felt like complete crap, and ready to jump right back into the my somewhat filled rut. Luckily along the way while I was driving I stop at this traffic light behind this minivan, and look at the license plate frame!Click on the Picture to really see the license plate frame! How freaky is that? Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Lucas is a complete Asshole!

Friday, September 17, 2004 10:23 AM

Check out this excerpt from an AP interview with Lucas over the release of the original Trilogy on Tuesday to DVD.AP: Why did you rework the original trilogy into the special-edition versions in the late 1990s?Lucas: To me, the special edition ones are the films I wanted to make. Anybody that makes films knows the film is never finished. It's abandoned or it's ripped out of your hands, and it's thrown into the marketplace, never finished. It's a very rare experience where you find a filmmaker who says, "That's exactly what I wanted. I got everything I needed. I made it just perfect. I'm going to put it out there." And even most artists, most painters, even composers would want to come back and redo their work now. They've got a new perspective on it, they've got more resources, they have better technology, and they can fix or finish the things that were never done. ... I wanted to actually finish the film the way it was meant to be when I was originally doing it. At the beginning, people went, "Don't you like it?" I said, "Well, the film only came out to be 25 or 30 percent of what I wanted it to be." They said, "What are you talking about?" So finally, I stopped saying that, b! ut if you read any interviews for about an eight- or nine-year period there, it was all about how disappointed I was and how unhappy I was and what a dismal experience it was. You know, it's too bad you need to get kind of half a job done and never get to finish it. So this was my chance to finish it.Me:To me the special edition films are complete BULLSHIT, okay granted I can understand touching shit up, but adding new crap in, crap that is complete and utter shit!!!!!!!!!AP: Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD?Lucas: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished.Me:Yes I agree it's a rare experience to have to keep my VHS Machine around to watch something that I originally fell in love with. And I'm sure I'm not alone on that! Here's a fun fact, Lucas decided to release his THX 1138 on DVD on Sep. 14th 2004. The movie poster for that is pictured below right behind him!!! That movie was a complete, and total flop! Why not save money and not convert that to DVD and take those digital archives of the movies you have of the original episode's 4, 5, 6 and release those!

AP: Do you pay much attention to fan reactions to your choices?Lucas: Not really. The movies are what the movies are. ... The thing about science-fiction fans and "Star Wars" fans is they're very independent-thinking people. They all think outside the box, but they all have very strong ideas about what should happen, and they think it should be their way. Which is fine, except I'm making the movies, so I should have it my way.Me:Wow, bite the hand that feeds you, so it's like you basically don't care that's it I'm starting a boycott.

Disappointing Morning

Thursday, September 16, 2004 10:37 AM

I awoke to observe the complete mangling of my wiring job this morning. My roommate and I spent three hours re-wiring our Ethernet and antenna wires for cable on Tuesday night. For our 3rd and 4th roommates to decide to rip off the Ethernet, and antenna cables when they move out. It makes no sense. And it really pisses me off. Why are there so many fucked up spoiled brats in this world? Now I'm sure from a certain perspective someone sees me as being spoiled, but I think I know what respect is. I mean how can they not leave the place the way they found it? I haven't a clue. It's called being polite and considerate. There are a ton of people in this world that aren't like that. Perhaps it's my upbringing I don't know. Sad though to be put in a situation where someone doesn't care, and you have to clean up after them and perform responsibilities that they should be doing on their own. Then on top of that when you think it was only going to be one roommate living and sharing the bathroom with you, you find out you have to share a bathroom with 3 people. So many times I was blocked for using the bathroom in the morning cause his girlfriend was using the bathroom. Ugh, so frustrating but luckily they are gone, and now we are left to pick up the pieces and adjust back to a "normal" (whatever that is) lifestyle.

Yet another sleepless night...

Wednesday, September 15, 2004 04:04 AM

Went to the market, when I was checking out. The cashier guy saw that I was wearing my usual night time "going to the market" attire which consists of my shorts with my get up kids zip up sweater. He asked me when I saw them, and I replied in San Francisco at Slims. He said, "Oh for their new album?" I then commented yes, but they played all of their old music. Then he replied, "Ahh, the good stuff!" I started to laugh, I then commented yes, and then said, "You know all of the bands on Vagrant are going that route?" He agreed, and said that they are all selling out. Just thought it was funny how there was someone else out there that knew of this band and how they've changed their style. Oh well I guess that's happens. That's probably why Face to Face is calling it quits.

Beautiful Morning

Monday, September 13, 2004 05:03 AM

I've found another goal to set for myself for an event I really wanted to attend this year but one needs to be invited! Time to add another entry to the list. Some how some way I must get invited to "FooCamp". I really want to go, and I think I have it in me to do something "cool" as Miguel De Icazza told me in the #mono channel this morning on the GimpNET IRC server. He said usually that it's something cool, in which one might get an invite to "FooCamp." So I gotta try. I really think that event is for the elite people in the Open Source community. But these guys are all crazy self starter type people that are just awesome! Although it's a challenge, I think I can do it, and be able to go to this event!

Carrie Fisher sunbathing!

Thursday, September 09, 2004 11:32 AM

Damn just when you think Lucas couldn't possibly bastardize the Star Wars Saga, he goes and modifies the already annoying Special Edition!!!!!!!!!!

Corporate Conspiracy

EARTH SHEEP

Tuesday, September 07, 2004 03:51 PM

This is type of Sheep is optimistic and more self-reliant. In spite of his strong attachments to the domestic scene and devoted loyalty to family members, he will still try to maintain a certain degree of independence.Earth as his element makes him conservative and careful. He won't like to waste money but he won't be counting the pennies either. But being a Sheep, he will still find it difficult to deny himself. What may appear as luxuries to other people will be bare necessities to him. However, just as he plays hard, the Earth Sheep will work hard. He can take his responsibilities seriously and will go out of his way to help his friends. It is unlikely that he will ever turn his back on someone in trouble.Although he may be more adept at concealing his emotions, this particular Sheep is also prone to being neurotic and ultra defensive when criticized.

It's getting hot in here....

Tuesday, September 07, 2004 01:47 PM

These are excerpts from this article."is (microsoft) facing growing pressure from open-source software across every segment of its business -- a competitive threat that could have significant consequences for its financial future going forward," eWeek reported."It has been actively lobbying governments around the world to shun open-source applications and Linux. To that end, Microsoft in January 2003 announced a new global initiative to provide governmental agencies with access to Windows source code under its Government Security Program, designed to "address the unique security requirements of governments and international organizations throughout the world.' And this January, Microsoft also launched a new advertising campaign, referred to as 'Get the Facts,' that aims to give customers information about the advantages of using its Windows operating system versus Linux."Hrmm......this sounds a lot like the Sun Microsystems way of embracing a fake "open source" paradigm. Scare tactics!!!! I can't believe this bullshit! Sure they'll open their source up, but the whole idea is collaboration, I bet if one were to read their fine print on the "Government Security Program" it does not have clause in there to take the feedback from the customer, so that features or bug fixes that a customer has implemented or changed can be integrated into the source tree. That's why open source is software is Microsoft's worst nightmare, and their scramble to use governments and the law to keep it out. Funny why can't they just use their research base and innovate?

Audioslave

Saturday, September 04, 2004 01:01 PM

Wow, I can't believe I missed out on this band. They are just phenomenal!! They have this style that is some residuals of Rage Against the Machine, (all because well the band is Rage Against the Machine, minus their ex-lead singer) with just enough new style to make it different enough that the result musically is just awesome. This band is just a great mix of talent. Anyways the track Im hooked on from them right now is Getaway Car.Artist: AudioslaveAlbum: AudioslaveTrack: Getaway CarThe first time I saw you, you wereChasing downA cycloneAll alone in the fieldWith rail yards and cloversI kept rolling onNever thought you'd wind up chasing me(chorus)Well settle down I won't hesitateTo hit the highwayBefore you lay me to waste, noSettle up and I'll help you findSomething to driveBefore you drive me insaneYour tired of walkingAnd you loathe the groundThe sideway will barelyTouch your feet and life movesToo slowly to hold you downWith ringing handsYou take it out on me(chorus)Well settle downI won't hesitate to hit the highwayBefore you leave me to waste, noSettle up and I'll help you find something to driveBefore you drive me insane

RSS Feed Management

Friday, September 03, 2004 03:00 PM

Amazing, how much more I read now that I use an RSS Reader!! The messed up thing is a centralized location in which I can have all of my feeds no matter what machine I use. On my PowerBook's reader I don't have all of the feeds that are on my Work Desktop Machine's reader, and of course I don't have those same feeds of either two of the previous mentioned machines on my Windows Box at home!!!! There's a problem that needs to be solved. I'm going to give del.ico.us a shot and see what it can do, but I doubt it can help my RSS Feed Management problem. I think it's time to dust off the Perl, and Php books and see if I can hack a client/server app together.

Powerbook usage

Thursday, September 02, 2004 06:04 PM

Man using the Powerbook is complete Nirvana. I mean it's like no other experience, things just work! And it's not hard to do anything yet! But I think I need to get back to Project Crossbow. And hit my goal. This weekend seems like that perfect kind of weekend with plenty of time for goal hitting!

My Challenge to Mr. Ballmer

Thursday, September 02, 2004 02:43 PM

In this article, Mr. Ballmer was quoted at stating the following: "I'm not trying to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt," [LIE] Ballmer said. "I just think people should go out and research this for themselves." [LIE] Mr. Steve Ballmer, I challenge you to try and see the world of proprietary standards you've created! All because it's easier to not adhere to standards set up by committees, and you decide it's easier to just create your own. You make money off of monopolizing, and using harsh scare tatics to buckle your competition. And now you are battling a sleeping beast, one in which you can only intimidate with your supposite "intelectual property". Your company has only innovated when comes to the use of "XML", and the idea of marking up data isn't originally yours! The rest of your "so-called patented technology" has existed for many years, and was obviously widely used by other operating systems. So it should be public domain, and not owned by your company. One would interject here about the US Patent office, but I'm going for the jugular here!!! You are not making the world a better place, you are only making the world use your shitty applications, which people have grown accustomed to, perhaps they aren't exactly looking outside the box, but it's not your duty to keep out geniune competition. Your operating system's security is worse out there, then 3 years later you decide "oh shit, we better secure our OS." With many companies, and individuals left having to stumble about trying to conform to your newly adopted "service pack" when you failed to test it properly and rush it market, and who suffers? Not your company, only the drones, the drones in which you take advantage of!!! How can you be proud enough to get in front of a room of people and bash Linux, an operating system that created entirely by the people, for the people!!! Sad isn't it? With all of your millions you can't even coordinate enough to get your revision of your glorious Windows XP to function properly with all of the software written for it!!!!!!!!!!!!! But that group of open source people can coordinate and interoperate with eachother, and you're scared of it, but what do you do? Do you try and really innovate, and go into geniune competition? No of course not that would be too hard, so instead you decide to spread mass rumors about how the operation system is insecure? I think the thing Microsoft needs to be insecure about is the fact that from day one, Microsoft has never innovated. I guess one could say you've "redefined" the word innovation to mean, take someone elses idea, change a few things, slap a new name on it, and there ya go!!! So my point being is that Mr. Ballmer is guilty of the same problem his devoted customers, he's ignorant and has no idea what the linux platform has to offer. The masses are truly being led blindly. It's sad when I see how well my open source media player works compared to all of those proprietary players, and of course how stable my open source kernel is compared to that of Windows XP! The masses have no idea what is out there, and they are locked in cause of ignorance. I honestly don't know where to point the finger.....the patent office.....the people....or Microsoft?

Thursday Meeting...

Thursday, September 02, 2004 12:44 PM

I rushed into work this morning. I made it into the office with plenty of time to spare. And of course the meeting is canceled! But of course there's the Thursday morning fix.......crack laced krispy kreme donuts. I swear I think our group is helping krispy kreme keep a float like the way these fat/crack ridden things float on oil. Just look at them!

I was screwing around with my camera phone right before I took the Krispy Kreme picture, and I thought it was an interesting shot.

A sudden sense of Urgency

Thursday, September 02, 2004 02:25 AM

I need to start thinking of my next evolutionary step for heatxsink.com. The current design gets many compliments, but for some reason it is boring me. I do need to finish up the projects, and band areas of the site before I do anything. Perhaps I can accomplish that and some preliminary new designs for the site over the holiday break. I have a meeting at 10 am, and I'd like to get into work early so I can enjoy some of the daylight for my training run tomorrow. I did a 1 mile sprint, and a 5k run on Tuesday Night. I then followed up my training runs with a 30 minute run on the stair master at the gym. I'd have to say my body felt great till later on tonight when I started feeling sore, and my muscles were tightening up. But all is better now thanks to some H2O and of course my much needed rest which I hope to be aquiring right now!

Resentment Quote

Wednesday, September 01, 2004 03:20 PM

When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.-Catherine Ponder

1 Year Anniversary

Wednesday, September 01, 2004 10:05 AM

Well if I recall properly I left home on the 31st of August 2003. So that would be one year yesterday! And I have no idea for how much longer. Life just keeps on giving me these crazy curve balls. And I guess I have to just keep on hitting them.
