Another Morning

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 09:51 AM

Another crazy morning filled with questions like...why doesn't this OptionMenu work like it's suppose to? And of course lots of Jack Johnson in the morning...Just have to smile :-) and keep pushing forward. I gotta get SVN working soon too, all of this zipping and unzipping is getting cumbersome!

XML-RPC

Tuesday, December 28, 2004 06:22 PM

XML-RPC seems pretty cool. Finally started in on the majority of the code I'll be using for my app. So far so good. Should be able to get it working more smoothly tonight.

Toliet

Tuesday, December 28, 2004 08:41 AM

Christmas was fun. I'm blogging from my toliet right now! Ha! I bet no one has openly admitted that! I think it's hilarious. Anyways I got this awesome book on etiquette. It's pretty useful, but also extremely funny. Makes for some good random chatter. I'm sure that book will give me tons of content for the next month or so! Ugh, time to get ready for work. This is becomming quite a chore, the weather outside is horrible. It's raining, windy, and cold! I don't want to leave my apartment, i think giving an employee the choice of telecommuting is cool. I'd be like dude I'm "telecommuting" today. I can't take the drastic change in my environment and must stay incubated in my laboratory! That's really the way I feel, when I was "telecommuting" for a couple of days a while back. I never thought I'd be _THAT_ productive working from home, but I thought I was extremely productive.

Merry Christmas

Glade XML File

Monday, December 20, 2004 04:03 PM

So i've decided to dust off my XPath and XSLT (read: XML Stylesheet) skills and write a stylesheet to pull out all of the widgets and their associated variable names out of the glade xml file. For those who don't know, the glade xml file is a "resource file" that defines what components of the GTK+ toolkit i'm using in my application and how the widgets are laid out. This is much how Microsoft's Avalon is "suppose" to work.

Subversion

Thursday, December 16, 2004 03:17 PM

Well it looks like since Merc is off busy with work, and well Dominic, hell I don't know where that guy is at or up to. I'm left with the task of setting up Subversion on the servers. The cool part is that O'Reilly has released a free version of their book for people who want learn how to use Subversion. Plus I remember that the Mono folks, have migrated from CVS to Subversion, so since I think they know what they are doing, I won't mind learning this new version control system. I've also found this cool client that should help with automation of checking stuff in and out of the repository.

What I want for Christmas

Thursday, December 16, 2004 11:49 AM

Besides world peace, which looks like far from ever becoming. I want to be invited to this thing hosted by O'Reilly the book publisher every year. Here's the website. The only way for me to get invited is to innovate something and make it open source. But think of the networking that can be done at a summit like that. Anyways, that's would be an awesome experience. New goal for the upcomming year too.

Christmas Present from Hell

Wednesday, December 15, 2004 04:07 PM

Once upon a time..... One of my younger brother's was about 4 or 5 years old. I was in high school and decided that Santa Claus was gonna get medieval on his ass and bring him coal. Now I know that sounds bad, but you have to see it from my perspective. He had been a really really bad bratty kid that year, and it's not like he wasn't going to get presents anyways! When he would get all bratty, I'd tell him, "Hey! What are you doing? Santa Claus doesn't bring bad children any gifts, he brings them coal!!" And of course being the brat he was at the time he'd reply, "NO....Mom!! (Insert My Name here)'s being mean to me!!" So the more and more I'd hear that little shit NOT listen to me, the more and more I plotted my revenge. Not to say he wasn't forewarned, but I decided to put a little twist on it, I had this nice rectangular piece of 2x4 that I had laying around that had the spirit of Christmas and crying little shit's screaming out to me. Fast forward to Christmas day. It's something like 12:30 am, I was up wrapping what little presents I could afford back then, which was whatever random but useful stuff I thought my immediate family would want. I then walked over to "Santa Claus" and said look dude, my younger (read: "little shit") brother, he's been a really bad always complaining to my mom about me..., so could you please put those presents that are for him over behind the couch, I'll take care of the rest. My mom replied, "Your brother has been a good boy this year, DON'T do that." I then thought that's quite alright, I'll wait for Jolly Old St. Nick to fall asleep cause she's going to be awaken in a few hours anyways by the all too excited little shit. So the tradition back then was, the presents got wrapped by Santa Claus and put out by the fire place Christmas morning. Which was perfect, cause my plan was to stay up till about 3 am, then sneak over to the living room and place his well deserved presents at the fireplace. I executed my plan, and I went to bed. I was then awoken in the morning, and of course with the magic that is Christmas, Santa Claus visited! To my surprise my special presents were magically pushed to the back. I strategically adjusted the special presents to be placed on top so that he could open those first. I tried to hold back my laughter and announced that the little one should go first, and of course suggested to him that he open the bogus Xmas presents. I have never seen the look of horror on a kids face before!!! But if I were to frame a moment in time in which I'd like to catalog FOREVER, it's that moment. The pouting that occurred was just awesome!! Fast forward to present day. He is now in high school, and well I'm all grown up, and not a Christmas has passed where I don't sit in the living room and bring up that "one" time when he got coal and a 2x4 from Santa. I figured someone his age would want one of those nice new iPod's. And being that I'm such a nice older and caring brother, I've coordinated with other family members (read: mom and dad) to make this happen. For those of you who don't know one of the cool parts of ordering from the Apple Online Store is the free laser engraving. Another cool thing those of you who might not know is that you could save the preview of the laser engraving and post it to your blog! See below....

Fornication

Monday, December 13, 2004 04:31 PM

fornication (frn-kshn)n.Sexual intercourse between partners who are not married to each other.Word History: The word fornication had a lowly beginning suitable to what has long been the low moral status of the act to which it refers. The Latin word fornix, from which fornicti, the ancestor of fornication, is derived, meant a vault, an arch. The term also referred to a vaulted cellar or similar place where prostitutes plied their trade. This sense of fornix in Late Latin yielded the verb fornicr, to commit fornication, from which is derived fornicti, whoredom, fornication. Our word is first recorded in Middle English about 1303.

So I found this site that has this sound. It's really cool to replace this wav file with those dumb default "ding" sounds in outlook. Espeically when a fellow employee decides to leave his or her computer just for a few seconds!

Laptop Risk

Thursday, December 09, 2004 03:26 AM

So this article I found very very very interesting. It's about how young men like myself are basically lowering their sperm count because of laptop usage. Essentially, a sharp increase in temperature seems to lower a mans sperm count. But don't take my word for it, read the article.

The Symbol

Monday, December 06, 2004 06:23 AM

So perhaps a little background is appropriate with this whole reinvention of my symbol. So that picture of the actual "heatsink" for transistor was discovered when I was going to school, at the time I was going through some crazy experiences. I was also dabbling in blogging with greymatter, and of course attempting to figure out an alternate identity just for the net. So back to the story...I had come out of the stock room and as usual there were a plethora of assorted items that students could just load up on for free, so I grabed a bunch of capacitors, resistors, and some voltage regulators. I then looked down on the shelf and saw a box load of those funny looking things. I then rushed back to lab, and set them all down on the lab bench to put them into my toolbox. And then very much how Ice Cube dropped an ice cube in the movie "Friday," I looked down and some of those heatsinks had landed on their side, I then looked at them and I suddenly realized...brilliant! The rest is history! And much thanks for Mercuryfrog for the help with configuring greymatter back in the day, i'm forever in debt to you for starting this addiction!!

Airport Express

Friday, December 03, 2004 06:20 PM

I picked up an Airport Express at Fry's yesterday just to mess around with it. I'm in love, it's so simple, and small, but because I was trying to get it working with a non-proprietary sister Linksys WRT54G flashed with Sveasoft firmware it took the better part of the day to get it functioning properly with the WRT54G. Anyways it works now and I'm in heaven. Plus the living room here can now be used by any of the roommates with their laptops, including a Windows XP based one! At this very moment i'm streaming a Rat Pack cd I got on my XP box, via the Linksys Access Point over to the Airport Express, this is awesome. I'm going to write up a howto, with what I did, cause I bet within a week I won't remember.

Very Busy

Wednesday, December 01, 2004 01:06 PM

I've been very busy trying to fix this server back-end problem, and also catching up on some much needed rest!! I'm hoping everything will be hashed out and my rest caught up by tonight. But of course that's yet to be determined.
