Best of Both Worlds

Friday, May 27, 2005 05:07 PM

So I got the chance to test drive a cool Microsoft application called "Virtual PC." For all of you non-techie people out there, Virtual PC allow you to run multiple operating systems on a single box. It's decently responsive, I was able to install Ubuntu linux on it, and use Linux hosted on a Windows XP PC. I can truly say using it was pretty cool, cause I can use the best of both worlds! My roommate pasted me this funny picture of Darth Vader, being homeless. An interesting "tidbit" about San Francisco is that I have never seen so many homeless, sign totin' people in an urban city ever, it might even be true for the bay area in general, not just the city of San Francisco!

Winning

Thursday, May 26, 2005 11:43 AM

Picked up this Jack Welch book entitled "Winning." It's interesting to see the situations he points out in this book in business, "from the top down," not from my perspective, "from the bottom up." I found his description of looking for passion amoung other traits in a canidate very encouraging.

If the candidate has the four E's, then you look for that final P -- passion.By passion, I mean a heartfelt, deep, and authentic excitement about work. People with passion care -- really care in their bones -- about colleagues, employees, and friends winning. They love to learn and grow, and they get a huge kick when the people around them do the same. The funny thing about people with passion, thought, is that they usually aren't excited just about work. They tend to be passionate about everything. They're sports trivia nuts or they're fanatical supporters of their alma maters or they're political junkies.Whatever -- they just have juice for life in their veins.

Singing a different Tune

Thursday, May 26, 2005 10:17 AM

It seems that Luc-ass is singing a different tune. Weeks before Revenge of the Sith came out, Lucas was quoted as saying this is the last one, No more. Apparently, rumor has it that he already had an idea for the next set of movies. As of today, I've watched Revenge of the Sith 10 times.

Revenge of the Sith

This movie was for the most part exactly like the book. Of course there were some details that slightly changed because it's not a 1:1 mapping. But for the most part this movie was awesome, I think the special effects really made the film, finally I think technology caught up to the story telling. If any of you out there have Episode I go back and look at the end of the film where yoda was cgi. It looked like complete crap! But now, for the most part cgi technology is really getting there. Like with all of those clones, and their cgi bodies with a real persons head talking, I thought that was pretty cool and decently believable. I think Lucas might go back and pick up after Episode 6 in a few years because cgi will be so good they can use the same people, and it will be all cgi. I think everyone would go for it as long as that first movie that is all cgi is well thought out and decently presentable, if it's as bad as ep 1, forget it.

GTDTiddyWiki

I found the coolest thing ever, a wiki without a backend! It's perfect and just what I wanted!!! It's called GTDTiddyWiki. It's almost everything I've been looking for in a todo list-like format. And I can take it with me as I go, woohoo! Finally! Merc, here's a definite solution.

Yes Bill, the sky is blue.

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 03:31 AM

Bill Gates, made a all too obvious prediction last week. I agree with him, but he's stating the obvious. Why does he even need to speak? I think it's cause, "I'm Bill Gates, and I need promote my companies latest product." The product of course is their determination to make every device run some variant of their Windows Operating System. So of course good ol' Bill is plugging their newly renamed mobile platform, (a.k.a. Windows CE) Windows Mobile 5.0 (I know wow, 5th revision?). Of course to run Mobile Devices, but more specifically cell phones, which he prophetically states will take out the iPod, cause of course cell phones will do everything, if they don't already. I mean look at the Treo the 600 and 650 both do almost everything, they take pictures, connect to the Internet, and play music. I think hardware-wise we're almost to the point where a device could literally replace your other independent items, what sucks is the quality, it's just not quite there yet, but like I said close. I still can't see myself working out at the gym with my cell phone, as my music player. I don't want to be one of those lamer ass people that work out then decide to take a call while working out, I really hate that, the phone stays in the car, or goes in your locker!!!

Yet Another Show

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 03:07 AM

Woohoo, I've been wanting to see Audioslave for a long time since Drew first introduced me to them about a year ago. Two words to describe the show, "Bloody Amazing!" Not only did they play their music but they covered Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, and of course Mr. Chris Cornell couldn't resist playing two songs off of his solo album. Drew has metioned that Morello the guitarist should do a solo project, and I have to agree, the guy is a god on the guitar. WOW! Just awesome. The venue I went to is called the Warfield, in San Francisco. When I stepped into the joint, the first thing that hit me was wow, this soo feels like I've been here before. The venue totally reminds me of "The Palace" in Hollywood, CA. All of you So. Cal. people that have had the pleasure of watching bands at the palace will know what I'm talking about. When I saw that The Get Up Kids at Slims, I have to admit Slims felt foreign, but this place, felt like, "Yes, this feels familar, and yes I'm comfortable." This time I didn't have to worry about swindling to get to the floor, I made sure this time I was on the floor, before I bought the tickets, and believe me they were pricey. And it was worth every penny!Update:Drew showed me this myspace page for audioslave, it had this flash application, that I've hijacked for your listening pleasure!

Another Show

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 02:33 PM

To my surprise I was able to get 5 tickets on the say the tickets went on sale for a Jimmy Eat World/Taking Back Sunday show. I was pretty locked into using 2 of the 5 tickets, but then found a co-worker of mine that would go so I was then using 3 of the 5 tickets.

I then tried to sell the extra tickets when we got there, but everyone had tickets, I could not believe it! I tried to ignore the fact that I even bought two more tickets. We stood in line, went through the normal "patt" down procedure, then as we were entering the venue, there were two different lines, they looked at the ticket, then were giving green wristbands to people!I was thinking uh oh, that's not good. From my past experiences, when wrists bands are being put on people that usually means they are segregating people for access to the floor. This reminds me of...Once upon a time in what seems like a galaxy far far away, where my friends and I circumvented this exact kind of situation, by finding out just how to get 2 of the wristbands then once one of us was in, we'd take off the wristband and put it on another friend until we were all on the floor. The tricky part to those particular type of wristbands is that they are made to stay on, and not be taken off. So in order to make that work, we used chewing gum, which was a gamble because when the security guard would check that you had a wristband they would also physically tug on it! In the end we all got onto the floor, and it was a great show.So there we were in line, they checked my ticket, I got no wristband, I then started to remember about the other two tickets. I was like hrmm, maybe the wristband was for stage access or something. But I soon saw that they had a lot of wristbands. And that there's no way that they would give out that much stage access anywhere. So when my girlfriend was getting her ticket checked she recognized someone that was checking tickets. So then we were all in, and I said so lets go down to the floor, of course assuming that we HAD access to the floor. We get to the security guard that seemed to be checking for wristbands and I tried to walk down, they said you don't have a wristband you can't get onto the floor! I was kinda of like what the hell, then I remembered the last time I was in this situation, and thought there's always a way, always... I also thought, I better get onto this floor, cause I've already wasted two tickets worth of money along with this dissapointment, I gotta make this a good one. All I could think while looking around for anyone trying to do what we did that last time, was oh come on, there's always someone trying to do get in. I looked and looked, but found no one, then it hit me. I asked my girlfriend to go and ask that person she saw if he could hook us up with wristbands, she said alright, and went to ask him. She came back and said that he would try. So we decided that we should find some seats just in case. While we were looking for seats, the guy she asked found us and gave her the wristbands!! Saved!!! It's crazy I went from, "oh man this fucking sucks.." to "alright, damn straight, it always works out, yes!" SO we got on the floor. The opening band, was this girl on a keyboard, and this guy on drums. I swear, I don't know how they were able to even be considered to be on this tour. They sounded like shit. It was torture, you could barely make out what they weres

Audio Blogging?

Monday, May 09, 2005 09:54 PM

This isn't exactly Audio Blogging but I bet this might be the closest I get. So Merc got a guitar, one of those really cool Fender ones, compared to my crappy Yamaha kit!

Look at the sexy guitar! And the wine fridge!
Anyways, so I figured out how to convert from the FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) to MP3 via the command line flac and lame binaries accordingly and now you can hear me suck on the guitar, cause I told Merc that I've been practicing this Bass riff for the song Chick Magnet, by MxPx, this was when MxPx didn't suck. So here are the recordings for your listening pleasure.. Take 1, and Take 2.

Change

Monday, May 09, 2005 02:29 PM

I guess change is eminent, especially with music artists. <rant> I cant help but state this... but I dont think Ill be buying the next MxPx album, it's entitled "Pain!" I got SO burned on the last concert/album that Ive decided to boycott! I wonder why it's entitled, "Pain!" Perhaps it's in reference to how one's ears will feel after listening to the first 3 tracks, if not the entire album. My best of luck to them though. </rant>Found some cool photos, one of them is kinda old taken at said MxPx concert.

For some reason I get the feeling of rainbows and unicorns when first viewing this picture.ALMOST the same feeling, when viewing this shot.
Update:Drew. just pasted me this...

Disco Floor

Sunday, May 08, 2005 01:09 AM

Looks like those MIT students don't have enough to do! A group of them have built their own disco floor! It's really cool! Imagine, combining this with a that portable stripper pole?

Revenge of the Sith

Wednesday, May 04, 2005 08:16 PM

So I spoiled it for myself, thanks to my buddy Domnic, no really I wanted to get my hands on the "Revenge of the Sith" unabridged audio book which is based heavily on the screenplay by Mr. Luc-ass. I have to say, I cannot wait for this movie! I also have found a couple of really interesting articles that have confirmed this, and one of them is a commentary/spoiler of ROS by Kevin Smith, so beware! My Favorite quote from Mr. Luc-ass is, "But I have to tell a story. I'm not making these, oddly enough, to be giant, successful blockbusters. I'm making them because I'm telling a story, and I have to tell the story I intended." I can almost sense where he got his whiny Anakin Skywalker tone/motivation from, ha!
