Alright, I've had it. I've been running Vista for about 2 months solid. I have to say on all fronts (developer, user, poweruser, mom typed user), it just isn't good enough. We all have waited yet another YEAR for what? Really?Redmond can't even get the FUCKING (that's right I swore...) shutdown menu properly narrowed down. I've read the book "The Paradox of Choice," and if you know me, I've probably brought it up in conversation, and urged you to read it.
I highly suggest that ALL people that touch software read this book, especially those that are on teams that deal with any kind of user interface. Joel, has nicely intersected these two aspects of my life perfectly, here. That being put out there, it seems that one of the developers that was working at Redmond on Longhorn/Vista on the "Start Menu Shutdown" feature has surfaced, and responded to Joel via his blog here.My favorite quote from that blog is...
We had a Mac that we looked to as a paragon of clean UI.Personally Apple's OSX combined with Apple's hardware is the BEST personal computer experience out there, I wouldn't deem it "paragon of a clean user interface."Joel has shot back with, the same conclusion that I instantly envisioned, here. I guess it's a good thing this ex-microserf left Redmond, for Google.
