Ballmer on iPhone
Sunday, January 28, 2007 12:52 AM
This is horrible, another example of corporate america not understanding innovation. Nor will they ever understand people. Microsoft understands business, that's their bread and butter. They are on version 2 of their gaming platform, and I'll give them that. But when it comes to, people, especially outside of the business world they simply do not get it. It's really Ballmer, being Ballmer and smoking the company herb.

The point is, if it was a fucking picnic with puppies and flowers everyday, they wouldn't pay you to do it.

If women were like cars, then the most prized ones would be those with a history of brakes failing. (i.e. makes life exciting)

Macworld 2007
Tuesday, January 16, 2007 01:28 AM
For those of you who didn't know, I finally arrived in San Francisco, Mascone Center on Friday. It was very much like last year's MacWorld. When playing with Apple TV, I completely forgot to snap some photos of the device. I found it to be really cool, but not a "must have." I believe for the Apple TV to be a "must have" they should either add functionality to iTunes to rip DVD's that people own (much like they've done with music CD ripping). Or they should have a DVD slot on the device where consumers could watch their DVDs (maybe even blue-ray and/or hd-dvd format discs?) through the device. I don't really see a need to get that device, because I don't buy tv shows via iTunes, and I'm sure a bunch of people in this niche market have a Tivo, so what gives?I did get some pictures of this "must have" device......
This had to have been the funniest tech moment I've ever witnessed. It's how I would envision people lining up to gaze at a rare piece of art or some kind of religious artifact. What immediately popped into my head was the scene from the movie 2001: Space Odyssey, where the monkeys were all looking at the obelisk, some of them banging on it. I was waiting for one of the monkeys to grab a bone and use it as a weapon to take out the guard-like Apple Employee, while another monkey went straight for the iPhone.

OLPC
Thursday, January 11, 2007 07:24 PM
Someone at work here got ahold of OLPC, why we have a demo unit of a OLPC is beyond me, or if I really knew, I highly doubt I could devulge why! Anyways all in all, a pretty CUTE little device. It needs alot of work in the interface department, but if it's meant for kids, it seems pretty damned cool. I think i'm gonna get my friend's kid one of these since he's shown an obvious interest in computers. Get them hooked young is what I always say.
I look like a complete retard, hacking the planet from a computer that doesn't even have a TRUE keyboard.
Software?

People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware.

So a few weeks back I was outside of our beautiful building. Out with the rest of the "MySpacers" conducting themselves in the sport of "smoking!" (I wasn't participating though...) On the first floor of our building there are other business units of FIM (Fox Interactive Media) doing their thing, and grinding away. I looked in this one window to observe this one developer using his MacBook Pro in a very odd way. Almost Xgl-like. (If there's such a phrase!) So I'm outside watching him, and he did this keystroke then his entire destkop does that "rotating cube thing," but this time dropping down. Which I thought was awesome especially since it was OSX, and not Xgl! I just couldn't help myself. I left my group of people outside, and marched right inside (okay not really marched) to introduce myself and ask what piece of software he was using. The software in question, "VirtueDesktops," and you can visit their website here. I'm pleased to report that it works great on my PowerBook G4 667/1GB of ram. Not nearly as crappy as when I hacked my PowerBook to run FrontRow! While I'm on the Apple rant, I'm pleased to announce that I will be attending Macworld, in San Francisco this year! (I'm trying to never miss a Macworld from here on out.) I can't wait. I might even spring for a MacBook Pro! For those of you in the Bay Area I haven't had the chance to talk with, please feel free to contact me, and lets get some drinks!
